WHO IS THIS COOL PEEP?
ACTOR MICHAEL SATOW (pronounced sayt-ow)
Born and bred New Yorker, although I’ve never been identified as one by my accent. People often ask if I’m from the Midwest. I’m originally from Queens, grew up in the suburbs, and went to college at Northeastern University in Boston. Then I came back here, went to a conservatory called the Maggie Flanigan Studio and continued working professionally. I’m an actor by trade, a musician for fun, and a human for the record.
WHAT ARE A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?
Coffee. I’m addicted. I love it. If I’m sitting down, I have a cup of coffee in front of me. I love cheeseburgers too. Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions. Scotch. The smell of the inside of a guitar. Laughter.
WHEN YOU ARE ALONE AND YOU THINK NO ONE IS WATCHING YOU…WHAT QUIRKY THINGS ARE YOU DOING?
I make faces in the mirror constantly. I can’t help it. I used to be afraid of mirrors when I was a child. I find them quite fun now, though.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE HAUNTS?
Last year I spent three months working on a play in Sarasota . It’s a magical place. The gulf beaches are incredibly relaxing, the sunsets are out of this world, and there’s something about the whole feel of the place that is special in a way I can’t really put into words.
EMPTY YOUR POCKETS RIGHT NOW…WHAT DID YOU FIND?
Ok you asked for it. When I was twelve I wrote a poem called “Ode to My Pockets.” Apartment keys, car keys, money clip, guitar pick, Starbucks receipt, iPhone, Chapstick, pen, itinerary for a trip I took to Israel two years ago (jacket), packet of emergen-C, free Shabbat candles someone handed me on the street, deck of cards, earbuds, Schmackary’s card.
WHAT IS ONE THING NO ONE WOULD EVER GUESS ABOUT YOU?
Unexpected thing about me: I know what the proper response to a woman showing me her newly manicured nails is, “That looks great! What’s it called?”
(Note from CC: rumor has it, Mr. Satow is also a closet magician…but you didn’t hear it from me!)
WHAT IS PLAYING ON iTUNES, RIGHT NOW?
This is not a completely accurate representation of my typical music tastes, but I can’t stop listening to “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk.
(Note from CC: know what is on mine? One of YOUR songs…yes, dear readers, Satow is not just a musician for fun)
WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU NEXT?
I just closed a play off-Broadway (“Final Analysis”) at the Signature Center.
The first six episodes of a web series I did, called PX This has been released online (preview video below).
The character I play is a chef based on the infamous Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
Coming up, I’ll be at Florida Repertory Theatre from December 2013-March 2014 performing “Arsenic & Old Lace” and “Hound of the Baskervilles“
Also, I’ve been nominated for Broadway World’s award for “Best Actor In A Play” for my work in “Red” at the Riverside Theatre!
