Cool Peep of the Week: Perry N. Halkitis Ph.D, M.S., MPH

Who is this “Cool Peep”? Perry N Halkitis, Ph.D., M.S., MPH is Professor of Applied Psychology, Global Public Health, and Medicine, Director of the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior & Prevention Studies (CHIBPS), and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the Global Institute of Public Health at New York University. Perry was born in New York City and lives in New York City. He also has homes on Fire Island and in Ulster County.

Perry, what are a few of your favorite things?  History of royalty especially the Tudors and Romanovs; the singer Kate Bush; historical fiction books; a bunch of TV shows especially The Knick, Downton Abbey, The Middle, The Good Wife; great dance music

What is your favorite haunt? The gay club XXL in London

When you are alone and you think no one is watching you…what quirky things are you doing? Fantasizing that I’m a rock star, receiving the Oscar for Best Actor, or winning a Grand Slam Tennis championship like Wimbledon or the US Open

Empty your pockets – right now? BE HONEST…what did you find?  A Nicorette wrapper, a taxi receipt, lint

What is one thing that no one would ever guess about you? I watch almost every made-for-TV Christmas movie and cry along with a almost every one; I collect lunchboxes from the 1960’s and 1970’s; I collect antique salt and pepper shakers

What is playing on iTunes, right now?  Sia “Chandelier” both the original and remix track are on an endless repeat loop

Where can we find you next? On October 2nd I’ll be in Atlanta at Emory University speaking at the HIV and Aging conference, and on October 24th ill be a keynote at the SAGE (Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Elders) conference in Tulsa Oklahoma, and on October 26th I’ll be speaking in Hudson, New York as part of the Hudson Pride Series.
