Fighting the Global Water Crisis One Beer at a Time
A very special happy hour happening nationwide March 24 in honor of World Water Day.
Africa water charity Drop In The Bucket is proud to announce Wells4Wells, a happy hour event taking place in select cities nationwide on March 24, 2011.
Spearheaded by Drop In The Bucket supporter Ravi D’Souza, Wells4Wells has confirmed happy hours in top markets such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Boston amongst others. Additional markets to be announced soon.
The goal of Wells4Wells is simple: to throw a series of happy hours in cities across the nation and raise $5,500 to build a well at a school in Sub-Saharan Africa. The name Wells4Wells is a play on the term “well liquor” and “wells for drinking water.” Top bars in confirmed cities have volunteered to host the happy hour, donating most of the evening’s proceeds to Drop In The Bucket.
Drop In The Bucket began in 2006 and provides environmentally-sustainable sanitation systems, rain water harvesting tanks and wells for clean, safe drinking water to schools in Africa. In addition, the charity remains involved in every step of the process, targeting locations, mobilizing communities, approving budgets, monitoring schedules and tracking success rates to ensure that each community develops self-sufficiency while stimulating its local economy.
Regarding his choice for spirits as a fundraiser, D’Souza says, “People love to go out and enjoy a few drinks with their friends. We noticed that even in the recession, people enjoy going to bars so it’s clearly important to them. We figured, why not focus on getting people out to bars and raise money for Drop In The Bucket at the same time?”
The current Wells4Wells happy hour locations are:
Asheville, NC – Brixx
Baltimore, MD – Little Havana
Boston, MA – Tommy Doyle’s
Charlotte, NC – BlackFinn
