Gettin’ Cheeky With It…by Christabelle

Chromotherapy is the use of color to boost one’s physical, emotional and spiritual state, and this season acclaimed colorist Napoleon Perdis is getting in on the positivity act. The Hollywood-based makeup artist, known for his inspirational use of cosmetics, is dramatically expanding his color offerings with a rainbow of optimistic new shades. The core collection extension includes 14 Prismatic Eye Shadow Quads, 6 Cheek to Chic Blush Duos and 5 Luminous Lip Veils —all of which adds up to the ideal prescription for banishing the recession blues. The quads, duos and lip veils are packaged in translucent acrylic components that reveal their true colors, and will be displayed on counter in a faceted tester unit that resembles a gorgeous black jewel. As you would expect from Napolen Perdis, the mood of the collection is uplifting, adventurous and undeniably glamorous. The message? Brighten up.

The new color story, which can be interpreted in endless ways, has two distinct streams. The first is “The Surreal World,” a dreamy confection informed by surrealist art, Elsa Schiaparelli and current trends. “Salvador Dali is one of my favorite artists of all time,” says Perdis, who has long collected the Spanish maverick. Certainly, Dali is in the ether:  There are major exhibitions (including the recent Surrealism and Beyond at the The Cincinnati Art Museum) and major movies, including Little Ashes with Robert Pattinson as the young Spanish painter, and Dali with Antonio Banderas as the renowned artist. A third upcoming film, Dali & I: The Surreal Story, features Al Pacino. “Our interpretation of surrealism is about surprising color combinations like blue and yellow for eyes,” says Perdis. “It’s a little edgy but always fun and feminine.”

After all the draped dresses and gladiator sandals in fashion, it makes sense to redefine Grecian glamour for beauty consumers. Hence the second stream: “Goddess Worship,” an exploration of mythical, ethereal beauty. “Goddess is an ode to mighty Aphrodite, classic Hollywood style and Milanese fashion,” says Perdis. “In our case we focus on how every woman can unleash the deity within using just a few key products.” The range plays up entrancing eye colors, bewitching blushes and riveting new lip shades. “For goddess-worthy looks I lean towards soft hues like pink, lavender and ivory,” adds Perdis. “It’s an extremely flattering and wearable palette with a hint of glittering gold.” Combined with classic items from Napoleon Perdis, like Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer and Long Black Mascara, the result is decidedly statuesque.
