NYFW Trend Report: SS2016 Alexander Wang

To celebrate Alexander Wang’s 10th anniversary show, Redken Global Creative Director Guido enhanced each model’s individual personality with custom cuts, proving that there isn’t just one idea of beauty in today’s world.

“There’s really not one singular idea of beauty anymore, which is great and liberating. It’s all about bringing out your personality and adding little nuances here and there that really make a look feel more special and unique. Alex very much wanted to emphasize the realness – almost like the girls just walked off the street onto the runway in their own clothes.

Each girl is really being left as she is. I cut a lot of the girls’ hair, not all of them, but you really wouldn’t know because many of them are new and you might not even know what they like looked like before. Some of the girls got layers, or an extreme bang or fringe, all things that are a bit more masculine to bring out more of a boyish quality, which creates a super cool feeling overall. After the cut, I just emphasized each girl’s texture with Redken’s wind blown 05 – it gives it a little volume and texture and lifts the roots and a little natural, downtown feeling, which is very much the Alexander Wang girl. Although all of the looks are different, they all really go together and create a cohesive feeling on the runway.” – Guido Palau for Redken
